What Right Does Obama Have to Criticize Iran, When He Supports Fixed Elections with "Card Check"?
Why is There a Media Double Standard about Senator John Ensign Sex Scandal?
By Wayne Allyn Root, 2008 Libertarian Vice Presidential nominee
I've argued for over 20 years that the liberal media is biased and hypocritical. Never have those traits been more on display than this week. Let's start with the developing voting fraud crisis in Iran. The media has (obviously) made it the story of the week…perhaps of the year…that Iran won't allow a fair and honest vote.
But this same liberal, biased American media supports President Obama and his fight for “Card Check.” What is Card Check? It makes it the law of the land that unions employees vote to unionize or not, on a post card, in public, with union goons (I mean leaders) standing over them. Has anyone bothered to explain to the American public that “Card Check” is a violation of our rights to a free, fair and honest election? Does the media bother to mention that every single politician in America has been elected by secret ballot (meaning you are free to vote your conscience, without intimidation) since 1776. Yet Obama and his union buddies (who happened to give him tens of millions in campaign contributions) want to deny that right to union employees. Where is the media on this issue? They are so busy reporting on Iran's voter fraud, they forgot to report on Obama's attempt to manipulate elections in favor of big unions here in America.
“Card Check” eliminates the secret ballot for union elections. Voting in secret is THE American right. “Card Check” means that union goons with tattoos on their giant arms and baseball bats in their giant hands will be watching as union employees fill out their cards. I call that the very definition of intimidation, manipulation and fraud. I call that a violation of our civil rights. I call that un-American. And to be blunt, I don't see the big difference between asking union employees to vote in public, thereby encouraging voter fraud and union fixes of elections, and Iranian President Ahmadinejad fixing the Iranian election. Either way the fix is in. Either way, elections are determined by brutal leaders using intimidation and fraud to fix the outcome. Either way, the people don't get a fair opportunity to determine their future. Either way, powerful people who think they are czars and we are serfs, control and manipulate the outcome of elections to ensure their continued power.
The only real difference is that in Iran the people actually did get to vote in secret. It just so happens that their votes weren't counted. In America, unions are trying to undo 3 centuries of secret ballots to fix the outcome of future union elections, intimidate business, and steal our tax money (and our children's future). But the biased, liberal media has somehow "missed" that story about election fraud.
But that's not the only hypocrisy on display by the biased, liberal media this week. Republican-conservative Nevada Senator John Ensign admitted to an affair a few days ago. Even worse, it was with a married campaign staffer (who was married to a friend of Ensign). The media appears to be in a frenzy over this scandal. They report that Ensign's career is damaged beyond repair, his credibility is shattered, and his Presidential aspirations are gone. Yet Democratic San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom admitted to an affair a couple of years ago with a married campaign staffer (who was married to a friend of Newsom). Same exact set of circumstances. Very different results.
Newsom remained mayor. He was supported by his Democrat friends…and of course the biased liberal media. He is a celebrity in San Francisco. And now he's planning to run for Governor of California. His political career is fine. As a matter of fact, it is stronger than ever. Newsom is going like gangbusters. Ensign appears finished. The only difference is their political affiliations. If a conservative who preaches “family values” cheats he is destroyed by the liberal media. If a liberal cheats, because he has low standards of morality in the first place, his career suffers few or no problems. Amazing.
In the end, Ensign's sad story leads to one inescapable conclusion- the 2-party system is irrevocably broken. I left the GOP a few years back for this very reason. Yes, it does seem that many (if not most) of the politicians that preach “family values” are frauds and hypocrites. But the fact is that all of our politicians are cheating- they are thousands of miles from home, separated from their families, and constituents. Many are cheating on their wives, and Ensign was the one who got caught. But more importantly they are cheating on the taxpayers. They cheat us every day by passing laws that steal our hard-earned money in the name of “fairness.” They cheat us by calling it “greed” because we want to keep more of our own money, but calling it “fair” to steal our money and hand it to others who didn't earn it- simply to buy their future votes.
They cheat us by spending taxpayer money without asking our permission. They cheat us by bailing out billion dollar corporations with our taxpayer money (and those corporations just happen to make huge campaign contributions).
They cheat on us by spending money we don't have, thereby bankrupting future generations- who have no say (they aren't even born yet). They cheat on us by passing laws that violate our Constitution- thereby violating their oath of office. The politicians from both parties are cheating us all every day- every time they vote to do damage to the taxpayer and the U.S. Constitution.
That's why I'm a proud Libertarian. There's no hypocrisy in my views. I believe in personal and economic freedom- PERIOD. I don't care what Senator John Ensign does in his bedroom. That's between him and his wife. His personal choices in the bedroom do not affect me. I do care about how my Senator spends taxpayer money. I do care if politicians understand that it isn't their money in the first place- it belongs to the taxpayers. I care about the politicians that recklessly steal and spend my money. Those actions are personally affecting my life and yours. They are in fact damaging my family's future. That's the real definition of “family values.”
With a Libertarian like me, what you hear and see is what you get. I state out loud that I want to keep more of my own money and that I will fight to help you keep more of yours. No hypocrisy there. I state out loud that I don't want government in my bedroom. I don't scream about “family values.” I scream about personal freedom. No matter what the question, the answer is “IT'S NONE OF THEGOVERNMENT'S DARN BUSINESS!”
The politicians of both parties are hypocrites. It's time for real change. It's time for real freedom. It's now obvious we won't get it from either Republicans or Democrats, or from the biased, liberal media. It's time to give a third party candidate who thinks "out of the box" and out of Washington D.C. a chance to run this country. No, I'm not a member of the establishment. I'm not a Beltway Insider. I'm a simple S.O.B. (son of a butcher), small businessman, home-school dad, and citizen politician. I think it's time for a Citizen Revolution to take back our country from the hypocrites, elite snobs and frauds on both sides of the aisle who have run our country into the ground. Just don't count on any help from the biased, liberal media.
